The latest Start Me Up “SMUFS” for Sunderland training session took place last week from the Everyone Active site at Sunderland Aquatic Centre and allowed local runners to enjoy training in the shadows of the Stadium of Light with some very special guests. Partners Everyone Active provided the perfect meeting place and allowed SMUFS runners to stay and use the facilities free of charge afterwards.
The February 15th session was attended by leaders from local running clubs, around 50 runners and special guests fitness entrepreneur Katie Bulmer-Cooke, Sun FM presenters Tim West and Tom Haile, and athletics legend Steve Cram.
Runners were put through their paces with a mile warm up, followed by a relay-style speed work out and a debrief with training tips from event director Steve Cram.
SMUFS leader Anji Rippon comments: “It’s fantastic to see so many enthusiastic runners getting involved in Start Me Up sessions even on a dark and cold February night! They are always full of positivity for the sessions and for the Siglion Sunderland City 10K and Half Marathon in May. SMUFS is fast becoming a community of its own”
Further Start Me Up sessions are planned for March 16th and April 19th. The runs are now fully booked, but to reserve a place on the waiting list please email firstname.lastname@example.org
